Defending Saint Augustine: The Case Against Ride-Share Giants

How Abraxi Taxi Fights Back Against the Ride-Share Mafia in Saint Augustine

There has been a welcome uptick in national conversation around bullying. That is great. Because calling out bullies matters—especially when they wear corporate hoodies, hide behind algorithms, and muscle their way into towns like Saint Augustine pretending they are doing us all a favor.

Let us get real: Uber and Lyft are bullies, full stop. And just like schoolyard thugs, they do not follow the rules—they bend them, break them, or buy their way out of trouble.

Uber Is a Taxi Company. Period.

Despite what their PR departments (and the Silicon Valley spin machine) want you to believe, Uber and Lyft are not “tech companies.” They are taxi services with a God complex. No medallions, no business licenses, no hack permits, and definitely no obligation to meet the same safety or insurance standards as legitimate cab companies like Abraxi Taxi

They claim to be “ride-sharing platforms,” as if what they are doing is the peaceful barter of community trust and kindness instead of a massive, underregulated transportation monopoly

We know better. And so do most municipal governments—though too many look the other way while golf carts and rogue rideshare drivers clog our historic streets

Saint Augustine Deserves Better

Let us talk local. In Saint Augustine, a city built on tradition, charm, and cobblestones, these unlicensed, uninsured rogue operators run rampant:

  • No business licenses
  • No hack driver credentials
  • No commercial insurance
  • No vehicle safety certification
  • No respect for local law

Meanwhile, legit transportation services like ours at Abraxi Taxi are expected to do all the heavy lifting and still somehow compete.

This is not a free market. It is corporate colonization with surge pricing.

The Codes Are Written in Stone — Enforce Them

Saint Augustine already has transportation ordinances on the books. What is missing is enforcement. We are calling on the City Commission, the Mayor, and the Code Enforcement Department to:

  • Crack down on illegal transport services
  • Demand proof of compliance from every company transporting people for money
  • Protect legitimate small businesses who are playing by the rules

We are not asking for special treatment—we are asking for equal enforcement. And a little respect for the law, while we are at it.

Lyft Above the Hype. Uber-Vigorously.

Yes, we are throwing shade. Because the ride-share mafia has cast a long one over the hardworking cab companies that helped build local transportation infrastructure long before anyone heard of “gig work.”

Let us be clear:

Lyft is not levitating above the law.
Uber is not under some magical exemption from municipal regulation.
They are simply good at bullying.

And we at Abraxi Taxi? We do not flinch.

Abraxi Taxi: Not Backing Down

We invite all local cab companies and small business owners to stand with us. The rules are the rules, and the law is the law—unless you are Uber, apparently. But we are done watching the thugs win.

Call your commissioners. Send a letter. File a complaint with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation. Because if you let the bullies stay, they never stop swinging.

Abraxi Taxi is not for sale, not backing down, and not afraid to bite back

“We don’t need a ride. We need regulation.”
