Why Choose Abraxi Taxi?

Back when this was originally written, here was our checklist:

• Registered with the State of Florida
• Compliant with applicable St. Augustine regulations
• City medallions displayed on the proper vehicles
• Proper commercial insurance and current licensing
• Drug- and alcohol-free workplace
• Timely service
• Knowledgeable—and mostly friendly—drivers
• Clean cars and cold air
• No strangers riding shotgun
• Comfortable taxi vans
• A longtime independent St. Augustine taxi company
• Proper business licensing
• Corporate taxes filed
• Money spent right here in St. Augustine

Running a legitimate taxi company isn’t cheap.

Commercial insurance, licensing, vehicle maintenance and regulatory requirements are part of the cost of doing business. Abraxi Taxi believed those expenses were also part of operating a professional transportation company.

So do a little research before choosing a local cab company or airport shuttle.

Competition is the American way. It’s healthy for businesses and can be a boon for consumers.

All we ever wanted was a level playing field—the same basic rules applied fairly to everyone providing transportation for hire.

Now, being St. Augustine, I originally expressed this somewhat more colorfully:

Hang the pirates from the gallows and tell the scallywags to walk the plank.

Figuratively, of course.

The transportation business was changing rapidly when I originally wrote this. Uber and other rideshare services were beginning to disrupt the traditional taxi industry, while local transportation providers were competing for an increasingly complicated market.

I didn’t know where it was all headed.

But I knew a storm was brewing.

And Abraxi Taxi intended to keep sailing.
