Overcoming Addiction as a Taxi Driver

Posted by Abraxi Taxi

Let’s get real for a minute.

Driving a taxi sounds like freedom, right? Wrong. It can also feel like solitary confinement on wheels — especially during the dead heat of Florida summer when the phone’s not ringing and you’re contemplating if your last customer was an actual ghost.

I’ve battled my demons: booze, smokes, regret, and vending machine cheeseburgers. If you’ve got an addictive personality, this gig can feed your worst habits. You’re stuck in traffic, stuck in your head, stuck in a loop. And sometimes, the bar down the street looks more inviting than the dispatcher.

But here’s the thing: you’re not alone.

Mental health matters. For cabbies. For vets. For anyone who’s white-knuckling their way through the day. Whether you’re struggling with addiction, depression, or just wondering why you’ve eaten six gas station taquitos this week, it’s okay to ask for help.

Try eating a vegetable. Sleep like a normal person. Call your doctor. Talk to a friend. Maybe even check out MyHealthVet.gov if you’re a veteran.

You deserve a full tank — mentally and emotionally. And if you’re heading somewhere dark, don’t go it alone. There’s a ride out of that place. Ask.

🚖 Stay safe. Stay sane. Call Abraxi. We’ll listen. We’ll get you there.
